Grace E. Gorringe (1919-2013)

gorringe_grace webGrace E. Gorringe, 94, of Pittsford, MI, formerly of Fayette, died late Wednesday night, May 22, 2013, at Bixby Hospital in Adrian, MI . She was born April 30, 1919, in Alvordton, OH, to the late James and Cora Mae (Whitmore) D’Lamater. She married A. Harris Gorringe on January 21, 1942, in Detroit, MI, and he preceded her in death on March 22, 1983.

Grace was a 1936 graduate of Gorham Fayette High School. After high school, Grace worked as a quality inspector for N.A. Woodworth in Detroit, MI, in contribution to the war effort. While primarily a housewife, she also worked at the former Red & White Store in Fayette for 12 years. Grace enjoyed sewing and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hudson, MI, and formerly a member of the Fayette United Methodist Church.

Surviving Grace are a son, Curtis (Joy) Gorringe of Fort Wayne, IN; a daughter, Maridell McKnight of Pittsford; daughter-in-law, Debra Gorringe of Swanton, OH; two brothers, Robert (Doris) D’Lamater of Albuquerque, NM, and Earl (Joyce) D’Lamater of Bradenton, FL; three sisters, Dorothy Gorringe of West Unity, OH, Marvel Schockey of Defiance, OH, and Barbara Johnston of Wauseon, OH; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Mark, Amanda, Alex, Christopher, and Robyn; nine great-grandchildren, Jed, Kayla, Jade, Jayna, Chance, Elaina, Emily, Chloe, and Reagan; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Harris, she was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Gorringe; a brother, Wayne D’Lamater; and a son-in-law, Bob McKnight.


A memorial service for Grace Gorringe will be held Saturday, May 25, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home-Barrett Chapel in Fayette with Pastor Fred Neumann officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant View Union Cemetery in Fayette. The family will receive friends for a visitation for one hour preceding the service.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorial donations in honor of Grace to the United Methodist Women of Hudson.
