Greta A. Yeager (1916-2013)

Greta Annabelle Yeager, 96, of Pioneer Ohio, died May 13, 2013 at the Community Hospitals and Wellness Rehab Center in Montpelier. She was the only child of Earl S. and Edna E. (Heacock) Snyder, born on October 30, 1916 in Ney, Ohio. Mrs. Yeager graduated from Pioneer High School in 1934.

Mrs. Yeager was very active in area music groups. She began playing piano in the Pioneer Methodist Sunday School Orchestra and the Pioneer High School Orchestra at the age of 13. After High School she studied organ and piano at Hillsdale College for one year. Mrs. Yeager was the church organist at the Pioneer Methodist Church for many years.

On August 31, 1935 she married John W. Yeager of Delta, Ohio and he preceded her in death on August 6, 1989.
Her talent for cooking was well known; having managed the North Central Cafeteria, Hillcrest Country Club and the kitchen at the Moose Lodge in Bryan, Ohio. Mrs. Yeager and her husband founded Yeager’s IGA Super Market in 1965, and the first deli in Williams County.

Surviving is a son Jon “Pete” (Joanie) Yeager of Vermillion, Ohio, son James (Barbara) of Corte Madera, California, daughter Dorothy (Bruce) Ramsey of Greenville South Carolina and daughter Deborah (David) Votaw of Pioneer, Ohio; eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, one niece and one nephew.


She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John and one grandson James S. Yeager in April of 1991.
The family will receive friends from 2-5 pm on Saturday May 18th at the Thompson Funeral Home in Pioneer. A memorial service will be held at the Pioneer United Methodist Church at 3pm on Sunday, with Reverend Michael Raypholtz and Nelson Rupp to officiate. A private interment will be held at Floral Grove Cemetery in Pioneer. Memorials may be given to the Pioneer United Methodist Church.
