Hazel E. Woods (1935 – 2015)

Hazel E Woods WEBHazel E. Woods, 79, of Montpelier, passed away early Tuesday morning at the Community Hospitals and Wellness Center in Bryan. She was born on May 12, 1935 in Berea, Ohio to Harry and Florence (Johnson) MacDonald. She graduated from Norwalk High School in Norwalk, Ohio in 1954. On December 25, 1955 she married Robert H. Woods in Norwalk. In 1978 they moved to Montpelier and Hazel began working at Houser’s Dry Cleaners in Montpelier. In 1980 she and Robert purchased the dry cleaning business and worked there until her retirement in 2005. For the next several years she took care of her husband until his passing in January of 2010.

Hazel was a preacher’s wife and faith played a large role in her life. She was the church organist and the choir leader for the several churches that her husband was the minister.

She is survived by a son Donald (Susan) Woods, two daughters Judy (Rick) Handy and Bobbie (Mark) Mercer all of Montpelier; seven grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert, three brothers Robert, Harry and William MacDonald, and two sisters Betty and Virginia MacDonald.

A memorial service will be held at West Unity Church of Christ on Friday, March 27th at 7pm with Evangelist Bruce Goosman to officiate. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Norwalk at a later date. Donations may be made to the family. Condolences can be left online at www.thethompsonfuneralhome.com
