HISTORIC REFLECTION … The first issue of the Advance Reporter newspaper—created by combining the former Stryker Advance and West Unity Reporter newspapers—was published. This photograph, copied from the January 20, 1976 issue of The Advance Re-porter newspaper, shows Regis Spielvogel (center), publisher of The Advance Reporter, with Bryce Publications, Inc., officials as the first issue of the Ad-vance Reporter rolled off the press on January 13, 1976. On his left is Bob Swope, editor of the Leader Enterprise, and right, Jack Bryce, general manager of Bryce Publications, Montpelier. 2,000 copies of the new weekly publication were printed and mailed to subscribers of the Stryker Advance and West Unity Reporter. The Advance Reporter was prepared in Stryker and West Unity and the pages were printed in Montpelier.
