James S. Boyers, age 91, of Wauseon, Ohio passed away Wednesday, August 11, 2021,  in the Laurels of Defiance. James was born May 10, 1930,  in Wauseon, Ohio to the late L. Ray Boyers and Katherine (Rutz) Boyers.

He married Joan M. Box on September 12, 1948,  and she preceded him in death on November 19, 2014.  James was employed for over 50 years as a foreman,  bricklayer and mason.

He was a member of the Local 3 Masons and BAC Bricklayers.  James was an Army veteran of the Korean War and served at Fort Polk,  Louisiana.

James enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, golfing, fishing, and gardening.  James and Joan attended Crossroads Evangelical Church, Wauseon, Ohio.


James is survived by three children;  Linda (Jerry) Borton, Wauseon, OH;  Steve (Martha) Boyers, Fernandina Beach, FL;  and Gary (Mandy) Boyers, Wauseon, OH.  Eight grandchildren;  Andrea (Sal) Russello, Beverly Farms, MA;  Stephanie (Tim) Remington, Wauseon, OH;  Emily (Abe) Ruben, Evanston, IL;  Caresse (Josh) Burkhart, Wauseon, OH;  Nick Boyers, Atlanta, GA;  Kimberly Boyers, Wauseon, OH;  Brittany (Anthony) Sandonato, Columbia, SC;  and Benjamin Boyers, Toledo, OH.  He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and one brother, Marshall Boyers, of Wauseon, OH.

James is preceded in death by his parents, wife,  Joan and a half-brother, Gene Sindal.

Friends may call for a time of visitation with the Boyers family,  Saturday, August 21, 2021,  11:00 a.m. –  12:00 p.m. noon in the Chapel of Crossroads Evangelical Church, Wauseon, Ohio.  A memorial service and celebration of James’ life will follow at 12:00 p.m. noon in the Crossroads Evangelical Church Chapel.


Fellowship luncheon will be served in the church following the memorial service.  Interment will be private in Wauseon Union Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to:  Crossroads Evangelical Church Samaritan Fund,  or Heartland Hospice, or the Alzheimer’s Association, or the Wauseon American Legion Post.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to:  Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home, Wauseon, Ohio.
