Janet VonDeylen (1947 – 2023)

Janet I. VonDeylen, 76, of Sherwood, Ohio, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2023, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Janet was born April 20, 1947, in Toledo, Ohio, daughter of the late Frank S. and Irene M. (Schikora) Hettesheimer. She was a 1965 graduate of Pettisville High School, and a 1969 graduate of Defiance College.

Janet was a teacher for over 36 years, spending most of her career with Central Local Schools. She was a member of the Sherwood Area Professional Women’s group, and a past member of the Teaching Association of Central Local Schools, Fairview Music Boosters, and the Alpha Xi Delta women’s sorority.

In younger years, Janet enjoyed vegetable gardening, canning, mowing her lawn, camping at Shephard’s Pasture, Polka dancing, and sewing.

In more recent years, she enjoyed the peace of sitting on a swing in her backyard reading a book, and spoiling her cat, Callie.

She is survived by her two children, Laura (Jason) Gregg of Hicksville, Ohio, and Steve VonDeylen of Sherwood, Ohio; one grandson, Aidan Pollick of Hicksville, Ohio; a sister, Linda Casler of Delta, Ohio; and several nephews.  Janet was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation for Janet I. VonDeylen will be held Saturday, December 16, 2023, from 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 Noon at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 North Main Street, Hicksville, Ohio 43526. Funeral services will immediately follow in the funeral home beginning at 12:00 Noon with Celebrant Patricia Peter officiating.

Private interment will take place in Pettisville Cemetery, Fulton County, Ohio.

Memorial contributions can be directed to the Fort Defiance Humane Society.  Condolences may be sent to the family or memories may be shared at www.oberlinturnbull.com.
