(Dedicated Many Years To Fulton County Fair)
It is with great sadness that the family of Jerry Allen Borton announces his sudden passing after suffering a cardiac event on Thursday, March 26, 2026.
Jerry was born to Mr. William D. Borton and Mrs. Martha (Stowell) Borton on August 24, 1949, in Wauseon, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved spouse, Linda (Boyers) Borton.
Surviving are their loving daughters, Andrea (Salvatore) Russello of Newbury, MA; Stephanie (Tim) Remington of Wauseon, OH; and Emily (Abe) Ruben of Evanston, IL. Their seven grandchildren are Sam and Lucca Russello, Grace, Madison, and Owen Remington, and Hank and Walt Ruben. Jerry’s siblings, Gene (Janet) Borton of Toledo, OH; Kathy Gage of Wauseon; and many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Jerry attended Chesterfield School until joining Wauseon High School, where he met his sweetheart, Linda. They were crowned J-Hop King and Queen before embarking on their loving 53-year marriage.
Growing up, Jerry attended Tedrow United Methodist Church until he and his wife Linda became faithful members of Crossroads Evangelical Church in 1984. Jerry was a dedicated and sustaining member of the church, serving in many roles, including Deacon and Elder Board member.
Those who knew Jerry admired the way he demonstrated his faith as a devoted and loving family man and upstanding member of the community.
Jerry served in the Armed Forces of the United States of America and attended The Ohio State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture Education. Mr. Borton’s early career involved starting a business, Agri-Crop Management, focusing on crop consulting services for the local farming community.
He later joined Farmers and Merchants State Bank, where he faithfully served as VP and Director of Agriculture Lending for 26 years.
As his “hobby,” but perhaps more of his calling as a farmer’s son, Jerry continued to farm the 158 acres of his childhood family farm. He loved his time on the farm and continued to actively farm up until he reluctantly “retired” just a few years ago at the age of 70. Farming brought great pride and joy, and peace, to Jerry.
He dedicated many years to the Fulton County Fair, Fulton Soil & Water Conservation Board, and received an induction into the Ag Hall of Fame in 2020.
Jerry was a man of strong faith, dry humor, loyal dedication, and an unmatched work ethic. Those who knew Jerry best knew him as a family man, above all else. He will be missed dearly by the family and friends he leaves behind.
Visitation for Jerry will take place on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Crossroads Church Auditorium in Wauseon. A Celebration of Jerry’s Life will take place on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at 11 a.m., at the church, with Pastor Matt Strader officiating. Burial will be private at the Wauseon Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association or Crossroads Evangelical Church, Wauseon, Ohio. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.grisierfh.com.
The Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home of Wauseon is honored to serve the Borton family. The obituary for Jerry was lovingly prepared by his family.
