John Trowbridge (1931-2023)

John H. Trowbridge, age 92, lifelong resident of Delta, peacefully passed away at Genacross Lutheran Services in Napoleon early Sunday morning, May 14, 2023.

He was born in Wauseon on April 12, 1931 to Willard Trowbridge and Eva (Pittman) Trowbridge. John graduated from Delta High School.

On February 15, 1953, he was joined in marriage to Betty L. Mock; who passed away on May 4, 2018; together they were blessed with two sons, John Jr. and Robert “Bobby” Trowbridge.  John was a Veteran having served in the U.S Army from 1955 – 1956.

He was a lifelong farmer and owner of Trowbridge Cattle Farms in Delta. John served on many committees and was a member of various organizations.


He was a trustee for 40 years with York Township and state director with OTA for 18 years. He belonged to the Northwest Conference of Trustees, Ohio Cattleman Association, lifetime member of the Fulton County Farm Bureau and active in Zion Church of Wauseon formerly Zion United Methodist Church.

John enjoyed tending to his farm chores, visiting with friends at the Barn Restaurant in Delta and most of all enjoying his family and grandchildren.

He is survived by his sons, John (Dawn) Trowbridge of Swanton and Robert “Bobby” (Amy) Trowbridge of Delta; grandchildren, Samantha (Randall) Reitz, Trena (Joshua) Shehorn, Mandy (Jeremy) Kern and Kami (Tony) Vasko; great grandchildren, Karyssa, Mykenna, Kalan, Kason, Danica and Riley; along with several loving nieces and nephews.


John was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Betty Trowbridge; brother, Kenneth Trowbridge and sisters, Pauline Lichtenwald and Virginia Johnson.

Friends and family will be received from 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at Barnes Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 5825 St Hwy 109 in Delta; with a funeral service honoring John’s life beginning at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 18, 2023 also at the funeral home. Pastors Eli Kochler and Donald Krieger will be officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Delta with military rites performed by the Fulton County Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing a show of sympathy are asked to consider contributions to Elara Hospice, 3425 Executive Pkwy, Suite 206, Toledo, Ohio 43606 or the Delta Fire Department, 500 East Main St., Delta, Ohio 43515 in his’s memory.
