Karen A. Stoops

Karen A. Stoops, 73, of Montpelier passed away Monday, June 6, 2016 at Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center in Defiance. She was born on October 7, 1942 in Wauseon to Orville D. and Audrey May (Spangler) Scott. Karen graduated from Montpelier High School in 1960, then obtained her license in cosmetology from the Fort Wayne Beauty College. On August 31, 1963 she married William “Bill” Sam Stoops and he survives.

Karen was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in West Jefferson and the Montpelier Moose Lodge. She retired from Montpelier Schools, working in the High School cafeteria, prior to that she was a playground monitor at the Robert Storrer Elementary School.

She is survived by her husband Bill; two sons, Scott (Shiela) Stoops of Montpelier and Tony (Michele) Stoops of Cumming, Georgia; four grandchildren, Heather (Colin) Campbell, Brandon Stoops, Lindsay (Evan) Dietsch and Mallory Blosser; one great granddaughter Kinley; and one brother Dean (Calista) Scott of LaConner, Washington.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation for Karen will be on Thursday, June 9th from 3-7pm at the Thompson-Geesey Funeral Home on Empire Street in Montpelier. Services will be on Friday at 11am at the funeral home with Pastor Jeffrey Bischoff to officiate. Interment will follow at Shiffler Cemetery in rural Bryan.


Memorial contributions may be given to CHP-Patient Care Fund at Defiance Hospice. Online condolences can be left at www.thethompsonfuneralhome.com.
