Veteran

Lauren J. Bauer, age 85, of LaPorte, Indiana and a longtime resident of Ney, passed away Monday, January 15, 2024 at his home.

He was a farmer and mechanic in the Natural Gas industry.  Lauren was a veteran of the US Army having served from 1961-1963.

He was an active member of Journey Church in LaPorte and had attended Sonrise Church near Ney.


Lauren helped with the church food pantry and was a member of the Ney American Legion. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and collecting all things John Deere.

Lauren J. Bauer was born on April 9, 1938 in Defiance, Ohio, the son of William and Mary (Michael) Bauer.

He was a graduate of Central Local High School. He married Lorraine V. Levinson on May 1, 1960 and she preceded him in death on September 30, 2011.


Lauren is survived by his daughter, Lynnette (Leon) Shouse, of Kellyville, Oklahoma; son, Lynn (Amy) Bauer, of LaPorte, Indiana; 8 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; brothers, Bill (Maryann) Bauer, Phillip Bauer and Burnell (Nancy) Bauer, all of Bryan; sister, Yvonne (Floyd) Smith, of Shelby Township, Michigan and sister-in-law, Norma Bauer, of Bryan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sisters, Hazel Bauer, Marion Frank and Arlene Lloyd and brothers, Marvin, George, and Vernon Bauer.

A celebration of Lauren’s life will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024 from 3:00-5:00 CST at Journey Church, 6006 North Fail Road, LaPorte, Indiana. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 21, 2024 from 1:00-3:00 P.M. EST at Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Monday, January 22, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. EST with Pastor Nick Bello officiating.  Burial will follow at Ney Cemetery with graveside military rites provided by the Ney American Legion and US Army Honor Detail.
