Veteran

FAYETTE – LaVon Oliver Campbell, age 93 of Fayette and formerly Morenci, passed away early Friday, February 9, 2024, at his home, under the care of Elara Caring Hospice.

He was born in Sand Creek on October 4, 1930, to the late Roy Leland and Stella (Votzke) Campbell.

LaVon attended and graduated from Morenci High School in 1949; and then served his country in the United States Marine Corp. from 1952-1954.

On August 15, 1978, he married Marilyn J. Huntley in Tazewell, TN, and she preceded him in death on June 4, 2010. He worked at M & S Manufacturing in Morenci, retiring in 1995 after 45 years of service.

LaVon was very proud of his service to the United States; especially being a Marine. He was a life member of the Morenci American Legion Post 368, the Fairfield Masonic Lodge, and the Scottish Rite of Detroit.

He and his wife loved to travel, with Bronson, MO, New Mexico, AZ, and Arkansas being their favorite places to visit.  LaVon loved to golf, mow his lawn, garden, and make woodworking crafts.

Surviving are his children, Rebecca Sue (Stan) Shadbolt, Vickie Lynn Betz, Tom (Bonnie) Berry, Brenda Kay (Bill) Dickey, and Lisa Meyers; 16 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandy Sue Berry; and his siblings, Julius Merton Campbell, Roy Campbell, Jr., Paul Campbell, Ellen Dvorsky, Phyllis Riviere, and Jean Marie Ives.

Visitation for LaVon will be held on Sunday, February 18, 2024, from 2:00 – 7:00 PM, at the Eagle-Marry Funeral Home in Fayette. Funeral services will be on Monday, February 19, 2024, at 11:00 AM, also at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Pleasant View Union Cemetery, Fayette. Military rites will be accorded by the Fulton County Honor Guard.

Online condolences to the family may be offered at www.eaglemarryfuneralhome.com. Memorial donations in LaVon’s memory may be given to the Wounded Warrior Project or Elara Caring Hospice.

The Eagle-Marry Funeral Home in Fayette has been entrusted with arrangements.
