Lewis Burggrave (1939 – 2023)

Lewis E. Burggrave, age 84, of Hicksville, Ohio, passed away on Friday, August 18, 2023, at 11:55 P.M. in his home after an extended illness.

Mr. Burggrave was a 1957 graduate of Bryan High School and served in the United States Army from 1962-1964 as an MP stationed in Okinawa.

He was employed at Gamble Stores from 1960-1978, becoming store owner in Hicksville in 1968. He then was employed by Parker-Hannefin in Hicksville from 1978 until his retirement in 2007.


He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church near Edgerton, was a Life member of VFW Post #3011, and was a member of AmVets Post #492, both in Hicksville. He enjoyed watching old westerns and woodworking.

Lewis E. Burggrave was born on February 19, 1939, in Findlay, Ohio, the son of Lewis J. and Lucille (Swank) Burggrave.

He married Marilyn M. Heisler on April 19, 1964, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Edgerton and she survives.


Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Todd A. (Angela) Burggrave, of Auburn, Indiana, and Gary R. (Tiffany Kime) Burggrave, of Edgerton; one daughter, Michele R. (Steve) Ayers, of Hickville; ten grandchildren; four great-grandsons; and his nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and Ronald Hurd.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, from 4:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 114 East Hull Street, Edgerton. Services will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. in Zion Evangelical Church near Edgerton with Reverend Daniel Broaddus and Reverend Jonathan Nack officiating. The family will also receive visitors for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 A.M. in the church. Interment will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery with graveside military rites conducted by Joint VFW-Legion Honor Guard from Sherwood, Hicksville and Farmer.

Memorials are requested to Zion Lutheran Elevator Fund.
