(1957 Graduate Of Pettisville High School)

Lowell Dean Schultz, age 85, of Wauseon, passed away on January 7, 2025, at the Hospice of Northwest Ohio – Perrysburg.

Lowell worked for Sheridan Manufacturing for 46 years, retiring as a manufacturing manager.

Lowell was born on October 27, 1939, in Wauseon, to the late Russell F. and Bessie (Spengler) Schultz.

He graduated from Pettisville High School in 1957. On November 12, 1960, he married the love of his life, Patricia (Birtcher), and she survives.

Lowell loved all things sports. Lowell is best known as a basketball official, softball umpire, and baseball umpire; officiating thousands of games in his career from youth to varsity sports. He also volunteered his time officiating games for the Special Olympics. In high school, Lowell excelled in basketball and baseball.

In his retirement, Lowell was a crossing guard, substitute custodian for Wauseon Schools, and also served as a groundskeeper for the schools, painting the athletic fields.

He was a very active member of the Wauseon Christ United Methodist Church, where he served in many roles. He enjoyed playing softball, playing for 36 years, long enough to play with both of his sons. His father-in-law was Rev. Raymond Birtcher, who married Lowell and Pat and also baptized all of their children.

Lowell is survived by his wife, Patricia; son, Bob (Sue) Schultz of Wauseon; daughter, Julie (Ira Sterne) Schultz of Long Island, NY; and granddaughter, Taylor Marie (John) Cogar. He is also survived by his sister, Joan (Paul) Lovejoy; brother, Larry (Holly) Schultz; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Gary Dean Schultz; his parents; and sisters, Arlene and Louise Short.

Visitation for Lowell will take place on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at the Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home, from 3pm to 7pm. A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, January 17, 2025, at 11am, at the Wauseon Christ United Methodist Church, with Rev. Jeff Ridenour officiating. Burial will be private at the Wauseon Union Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Wauseon High School Athletic Department or to Wauseon Christ United Methodist Church.

Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.grisierfh.com. The Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home of Wauseon is honored to serve the Schultz family.
