Margaret L. Welling, 96, of Montpelier passed away early Monday morning at Hillside Country Living in rural Bryan. She was born on February 10, 1922 in Montpelier to Clarence and Lulu (Wolff) Fisher. On January 1, 1939 she married Raymond V. Welling and he preceded her in death in 1996.
Margaret was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Montpelier. She was the co-owner and operator with her husband for many years as the secretary / treasurer of Welling Homes. Margaret also managed several rental properties. During her retirement years she loved to travel all around the country with her husband in their motor home. Margaret volunteered for Hospice the Caring Way and Hillside Country Living for several years.
She is survived by two children, Connie (David) Drerup of Montpelier, Gary (Pam) Welling Jr., of Bryan; daughter-in-law Tara Welling of Hicksville; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren; three brothers, Warren Fisher of Cathedral, California, Clarence (Helen) Fisher, Jr. of Bryan, Tom (Barb) Fisher of Montpelier; two sisters Willadene Moore and Mary Lou (Val) Michael both of Montpelier.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husband Raymond, son Scott Welling and grandson Carl Hennon.
Visitation for Margaret will be on Friday, April 6th from 4-8pm at the Thompson Funeral Home on Main in Montpelier. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11am at the funeral home with Pastor Richard Blank to officiate. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Montpelier.
