Maria Elena Estrada, age 75, of Wauseon, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, May 7, 2021. She was born on February 9, 1946 in Grand Ledge, Michigan to Eleno Medrano and Maria Hernandez.
She was the Reina De Las Fiestas Patrias Beauty Queen in 1962 in Lansing, Michigan and was also a graduate of Everett High School. She married the love of her life, Mario Estrada, on May 28, 1977 in Wauseon, Ohio.
Maria worked for The Ohio Bureau of Employment Services as a migrant worker advocate. She was instrumental with getting migrant families appropriate advocacy and support while they worked in the Fulton County and surrounding areas.
She was a member of St. Caspar Catholic Church for many years, enjoying bowling, Mexican dancing, painting and above everything – tending to her family and precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 44 years, Mario; her Mother, Maria Medrano; her sons, Brendon Rendon, Mario Jr. (Yolanda) Estrada, Marcos (Rose) Estrada and Martin Estrada; 10 grandchildren, Brianna (Nathan) Saldivar, Logan (Joe) Collins, Thalia, Mario III, Gabriella, Madan, Marcos Jr., Antonio, Maya, Mercie; 2 great-grandchildren; Aaliyah Saldivar, Baby Boy Collins. Brother, Francisco (Vickie) Medrano; Sisters, Elvira (Jose) Pizana, Evangelina (Rafael, Jr.) Delgado and Eliza (Antonio) Cervantes.
She was preceded in death by her father; Eleno Medrano.
The family will receive guests on Thursday, May 13, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home, 219 South Fulton Street, Wauseon, Ohio 43567 with a Recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. The family will also receive guests on Friday, May 14, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at St. Caspar Catholic Church, 1205 North Shoop Avenue, Wauseon, Ohio 43567 with her Funeral Mass celebrated at 11:00 a.m. with Father Todd Dominique officiating. Interment will follow in St. Caspar Catholic Cemetery, Wauseon, Ohio.
