Mary M. Brown, age 95, of Bryan, Ohio, passed away at 8:15 A.M. on Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at Genesis Healthcare-Bryan Center.
Mary Margaret graduated from the West Unity High School where she was honored as Valedictorian of the Class of 1941. Following graduation, she served as school secretary and librarian until her marriage.
She later was a postal clerk for the US Post Office in Alvordton for more than 23 years. Mary also served her community as Village Clerk for a number of years. She was a member of the Alvordton United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School, the United Methodist Women’s group, the Alvordton Mother’s Club and the Carnation Literary Club in West Unity.
Mary was born on August 10, 1923, in West Unity, Ohio, the daughter of Hoy and Marjorie (Esterline) Swaney. She married Herbert Neil Brown on June 10, 1944, and he preceded her in death on November 19, 2009.
Mary is survived by her sons, Tom (Kay) Brown, of Gallipolis, Ohio and Robert (Dawn) Brown, of Bryan; seven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren and sister, Annabelle Davis. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughters, Barbara Ann Brown in 2001 and Jane Funk in 2011 and a sister, Donna Kunkle.
Visitation will be held in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, on Friday, March 8, 2019, from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Services will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2019, at 1:00 P.M. in the funeral home with Pastor Diane Schaffner officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Grove Cemetery, West Unity.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to an organization of the donor’s choice.
