 (Lifelong Fayette Resident)

FAYETTE – Max Borton, age 96, a lifelong resident of rural Fayette, died early Tuesday morning, May 7, 2024, while in the care of his family and CHP Hospice.

He was born at home in Fayette on December 12, 1927, to Paul and Olive (Cousens) Borton. Max married the love of his life, the former Paula Rose Robison, on December 30, 1945, and she preceded him in death on November 25, 2013.

Max was a 1945 graduate of Gorham-Fayette High School. He was a proud lifelong farmer. He faithfully attended the Fayette Christian Church-Disciples.

Max and Paula enjoyed their retirement years at their home on Black Lake in Onaway, MI in the summer, and at Okeechobee, FL in winters. Children and grandchildren remember visiting Black Lake, where they enjoyed fishing and swimming.

Surviving are four children, Greg (RaeNel) Borton of Coldwater, MI, Penny (Dan) Creighton of Fayette, Gary (Carol) Borton of Fayette, and Jennifer Borton of Wauseon; 13 grandchildren, Jason, Andrew, Fielding, Wesley, Jadea, Mac, Abigail, Austin, Joshua, Jasmine, Lee, David, and Allison; 28 great-grandchildren; a great-great grandson; two sisters, Helen (Doyle) Sommers of Oregon, OH and Martha Wyse of Archbold; a brother, Dan (Nancy) Borton of Columbus, OH; and sisters-in-law, Iola Borton of Morenci and Beverly (Roger) Kunkle of Fayette.

Max was preceded in death by his parents; wife of nearly 68 years, Paula; brother, Wally Borton; two sisters, Sharon Borton in infancy and Polly (Ed) Rousch; brothers-in-law, Roland Turnow and Sparks Wyse; and a son-in-law, Randy Merillat.

Visitation for Max will be held at the Fayette Christian Church-Disciples of Christ on Saturday, May 11, 2024, from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. A funeral service at 11:00 a.m. will immediately follow the visitation, led by Pastor Criag Bard. A celebration of life reception will follow the service until 3:00 p.m. at the Family Life Center, 306 E. Main St., Fayette. Max will be laid to rest next to his wife in a private committal service at Pleasant View Union Cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Eagle-Marry Funeral Home, Fayette. Those planning an expression of sympathy may consider memorial donations in honor of Max be given to benefit Fayette Christian Church-Disciples of Christ, or the Fayette Volunteer Fire Association.

Friends can share condolences with the family online at www.eaglemarryfuneralhome.com.
