(June 22nd, 2015) – MONTPELIER: While the Locomotives were first to strike, it was the Tigers of Liberty Center who would control most of the game. Montpelier’s early lead deteriorated by the contest’s midpoint, with the Loco bats unable to keep pace with their guests from Henry County.

Montpelier was defeated by the Tigers 8-2.

It was the bottom of the first when the Locomotive boys assumed a 1-0 advantage. Uneventful second and third innings allowed that lead to hold. But Liberty Center would tie the game in the top of the fourth with a 1 run effort. The fifth inning saw the Tigers take over the lead, as they drove in 3 more runs. Montpelier countered with another run of their own, but still found themselves on the wrong end of a 4-2 deficit. Another run in the sixth, and 2 more in the seventh inning gave Liberty Center the 6 run victory.

Dalton Surbey remained on the mound for all 7 innings of play for the Locos, giving him the loss. Allowing 7 earned runs off of 8 hits, the rising senior struggled a bit. Still, he was able to accumulate 4 strikeouts while only giving up 2 walks.

Kolden Uribes, a sophomore-to-be, provided Montpelier with 1 of their 2 runs on the game. He hit for an RBI single. Following suit was incoming senior Gunnar Matson. He also earned a single, bringing home an RBI in the process.
