(May 7th, 2015) – MONTPELIER: The Lady Locomotives claimed yet another victory as they continue through a successful season. Improving to 13-6 overall, the Montpelier girls took down the Lady Archers of Antwerp in a match-up between the North Western Ohio Athletic League and the Green Meadows Conference (GMC).

The Locos had little trouble dispatching of their guests from Paulding County, 13-5.

It was actually the Archers who struck first, scoring a run in the top of the first. In the bottom half of the inning, however, Montpelier would take over the lead, putting up 2 runs to earn the advantage. They never looked back racking up an impressive six runs in the fourth inning to pull away from their guests.

Antwerp never gave up, though. The girls from the GMC tacked on another 3 runs to their total in the top of the fifth, limiting their deficit to 4 runs. Montpelier would more than double that gap in the sixth, however, adding 5 more runs to their total. Needing 9 runs in the top of the ninth to force the bottom half of the inning to occur, Antwerp only managed 1 run.

Sidney Houk had a great day at the plate, going 2 for 3 with her bat. The senior Locomotive hit for a single and a triple, driving in 2 RBIs along the way. Classmate Christy Duchene capitalized on 2 of her 4 appearances at the plate, earning a single and a double as she brought home 3 RBIs. Wendy Shilt, a third Montpelier senior, had a perfect 3-3 game from the batter’s box, hitting 3 singles and an RBI.

Breanna Stein held down the mound for all seven innings in the win. The senior pitcher allowed 5 runs off of 9 hits. She also struck out 4 Archer batters, walking 3 more.
