(Cook For Archbold Area Schools)

Nancy Jean Detterer, age 86, of Archbold, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026, at Fairlawn Haven.

She was born on July 15, 1939, to the late Jim and Erna (Hauschild) Ellis. She married Eugene “Gene” Detterer on February 14, 1960, who preceded her in death in 2014. She was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church 6 and 66.

Nancy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, whose life was rooted in family, hard work, and simple joys.

She found her greatest peace outdoors on her beautiful property, where she spent countless hours enjoying nature and watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren fish at her pond- moments that brought her immense happiness.

Nancy dedicated 30 years of her life as a cook at Archbold Area Schools, where she was known for her commitment, kindness, and steady presence. Her years of service reflected deep care for the students and the people she worked with.

At home, Nancy was the heart of the kitchen. She was the best cook and family gatherings were never complete without her beloved homemade beef and noodles- a meal everyone looked forward to and will always remember.

Time spent around her table created memories that will be cherished for generations. Nancy also had a love for antique shops and never passed up the chance to explore one, always enjoying the stories and history of each find.

Above all, Nancy’s legacy lives on through her family and the many moments of love and togetherness she created. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who were blessed to know her.

She is survived by her two children, Sherry (Les) Wyse and Rob Detterer; four grandchildren, Rochelle (David) Borcherdt, Shannon (Brannon) Wurster, Allison (Dylan) Reisser, and Zac (Rae) Detterer; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; parents; sister, Sue Veigel; and brother, Jim Ellis, Jr.

All services for Nancy will be private. Burial will be at the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.grisierfh.com. The Grisier Funeral Home of Archbold is honored to serve the Detterer family.
