Nancy Sue VelaNancy Sue Vela, age 74, of Wauseon, passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2016, in her home, following a lengthy illness. Prior to her retirement in 1995 she had worked at the McCord Corporation in Wauseon for over 30 years.

Nancy was born in Henry County, Ohio on April 5, 1941, the daughter of Gershal and Alberta (Frederick) Andrew. On April 6, 1991 she married Gregorio Vela, and he preceded her in death in 2014. Nancy was very instrumental in every aspect, of the Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post 7424. She chaired many committees and took great pride in serving as Past Americanism Chairman and Voice of Democracy Chairman. She was very supportive of the Blue Star/Gold Star program. She was also Past President of the Ladies Auxiliary, and District Past-President of VFW Auxiliary. She also took great pride in helping with the Men’s Registration at State. She had also served on the Board of Directors for the Fulton County Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Surviving is her son, Wesley Secondcost of Wauseon; daughter, Dana Steele of Liberty Center; step-sons, Oscar (Theresa) Vela of Arlington, VA, Gregory (Lynn) Vela of Napoleon; three grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren. She is also survived by five brothers, Dallas (Shirley) Andrew of Florida, OH, Dick (Sharon) Andrew of Georgia, Tom (Ruth) Andrew of Florida, OH, Willie Andrew of Florida, OH, David Andrew of Napoleon; and three sisters, Grace Clair of Wauseon, Kay (Dayl) Mann of Wauseon, and Doris (Robert) Hutchison of Florida, OH. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers, Jon and Randy Andrew; and two sisters, Ruth Parcher and Mary Krogman.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be given to Sara’s Garden for Veterans or to henry County Hospice. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.grisierfh.com
