(May 12th, 2015) – PIONEER: The Lady Eagles of North Central wasted no time in their domination over Antwerp, their opening round opponent in Sectional play. Scoring early and often, the girls of Pioneer defeated the Lady Archers rather soundly.

North Central bested their guests from Paulding County 9-3.

Antwerp drew first blood, scoring a run in the top of the first. A quick response was given by the Eagle girls, who put up 3 runs to take over the lead.

They wouldn’t give it back, driving in 4 runs in the bottom of the second. With another 2 runs in the third frame, North Central carried an 8 run lead going into the fourth. Even though the Antwerp girls would add 2 more runs in the top of that inning, the Eagle defense would hold firm, solidifying a 6 run advantage through the final three innings.

Alyssa Swank, just a sophomore for the Eagles, brought home a trio of runs on a 3 RBI double. Senior Teammate Reese Cogswell hit for a 2 RBI single. Makayla Knapp, a freshman for North Central, earned 3 hits with her bat, putting up 2 singles and a double. She drove in an RBI along the way as well.

Cogswell also took to the mound for the Pioneer girls. Lasting all seven innings of play, she allowed 2 earned runs off of just 5 hits. The senior standout also had 3 strikeouts, and just 1 walk, demonstrating excellent control over her pitching.
