BRYAN (January 14, 2025) – The Streaks took control early with a 23-8 first quarter and then dispelled any thoughts of a Bryan rally with a solid third quarter for a 57-32 NWOAL win.
The teams exchanged the lead five times in the opening minutes as a triple by Kingston Sito from the right wing and two free throws by Landon Bassett put Bryan ahead 6-5.
Archbold would then step on the gas as Kurt Kruger hit a baseline jumper and then a layup and Maddon Valentine converted a layup off one of the seven Golden Bear turnovers in the period to make it 11-6.
The lead continued to grow for the Streaks as Aranjer Krieger added a bucket, Morgan Harris canned a three from the left wing, and Sonny Phillips had a steal and lay in to cap off a 13-0 run and make it 18-6.
A Carter Dominique field goal for Bryan stopped the run but Archbold would get the final five points of the quarter on an Isaiahs Gracia three ball and a stick back by Krieger to make it 23-8 after one.
The Streaks would hit 9/18 from the floor in the quarter with three triples while Bryan connected on just 2/9.
The scoring pace slowed in the second quarter, but Archbold was able to extend the lead to 28-10 before four straight points by Bassett trimmed the Archbold lead to 28-14.
Phillips would then shift any momentum Bryan (5-8, 0-2 NWOAL) had back to the Bluestreaks by burying a three ball at the buzzer to give Archbold a 31-14 cushion at halftime.
The third quarter opened with a 7-0 run by the Streaks as Micah Nofziger, who sat most of the first half with two fouls, had a basket and two free throws followed by an Evant Wendt triple to make it 38-14.
Archbold kept the pressure on as Harris had a layup, Phillips turned in a conventional three-point play followed by Harris and Krieger each going 2/2 at the stripe to give Archbold their largest lead of the night at 47-18.
Ten different players found the scoring column for Archbold (8-3, 2-0 NWOAL) topped by Wendt with ten and Harris added nine. Sito was the lone Golden Bear in double figures with 10.
