WAUSEON (January 23, 2026) – The Patrick Henry Patriots put on a clinic in their battle with the Indians in Wauseon Thursday night.
The Patriots took charge immediately, putting up seven points in a row and nine total in the first quarter, with three free throws and a layup from senior Carys Crossland and two baskets from senior Ada Christman.
Senior Marin Leatherman put in the only point for the Indians during the first quarter with a free throw.
Patrick Henry freshman Meyta Hieber was the clear leader of the second quarter, personally sinking four treys without touching the rim once.
Christman added a free throw and basket to round out Patriot scoring.
Wauseon posted four points in the quarter via a Leatherman basket and a pair of free throws from junior Laynee Sanford, putting the score at 24-5 going into halftime.
The Indians continued to gain steam in the third period, with six points scored through a Leatherman free throw, a three-pointer from senior Sophia Rupp, and a basket from Sanford.
The improvement wasn’t enough to hold off the onslaught from the Patriots, who put up 14 points of their own.
Hieber put in a pair of baskets (one on a breakaway), Crossland put in a basket as well as a trey off a steal, sophomore Kynli Crossland sank a three of her own, and senior Sophie Guelde made a layup on a breakaway after stealing the ball.
Patrick Henry (13-2, 4-0 NWOAL) solidified their win further in the fourth quarter, adding another 11 points to Wauseon’s two.
Crossland, Christman, Hieber, Kynli Crossland, and senior Alessa Almanza took the reins for the Patriots, while junior Ella Tule put in a layup for the Indians (10-6, 2-2 NWOAL) to put the final score at 49-13.
