An open house was recently held at the Fulton County Health Department for the new building expansion project.

The project, which was long in the making, was finished recently and added new office spaces, a new parking lot, and a large meeting area.

According to Fulton County Health Commissioner Kim Cupp, planning for the project began back in 2017. At that point, the county did not have a Community Engagement Division like there is now.

As that area grew, with much of the programs and services being funded through grants, it became clearer that more space was needed.

With the addition of a Breast and Cervical Cancer Initiative, funded through the State of Ohio, the only option available was to increase the amount of space the office had available. So, in 2017 the organization started to look and get designs to maximize the amount of real estate available.

It was then that COVID happened and put most of the plans on hold. Building onto the space took a back seat to all of the work needed to address the needs of the community.

Once that subsided, the project was back on, and ground was broken back in 2023. Everything was complete and occupancy began just over a month ago.

Cupp also exclaimed that there is not a week that goes by where the space is not used. Even the meeting area is used, in many cases multiple times per week.

Two office spaces were also created with one being the home for Community Education and Engagement. The other office space is being utilized for Breast Cancer and Awareness staff, the Emergency Planner, and an epidemiologist.
