Harrison Township – Troopers from the Bowling Green Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating a plane crash that occurred on the runway of the Henry County Airport.
On April 21, 2018, at approximately 1659 hours, Troopers were dispatched to a plane crash that occurred at the Henry County Airport, located at 10646 County Road O, Napoleon, Ohio, in Harrison Township.
After taking flight from the Henry County Airport and then returning, a Taylorcraft BC12-65 single-engine, flown by Walter Bernard Gerhardt Jr., landed on the runway from the east of the Henry County Airport. Upon landing, the plane ran off the north side of the runway, where it overturned and came to rest on its top.
Mr. Gerhardt Jr., 59 years of age, of Napoleon, Ohio, was not injured. His passenger, Audra A. Smith, 51 years of age, of Napoleon, Ohio, suffered minor injuries and was transported to Henry County Hospital. Both subjects were wearing 4 point harnesses when the plane overturned.
The crash remains under investigation. The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Henry County Sheriff’s Department.
