A rash of fake Motion Picture money has found itself in the hands of Williams County businesses according to the Williams County Sheriff’s Facebook page.
The $10 funny money, upon first glance, could easily be mistaken for real money. Upon further inspection, some things do not add up.
Firstly, on the front of the bill, instead of them saying “Federal Reserve Note” on the top it instead say “Motion Picture Purposes”. Other differences include a smirking picture of Alexander Hamilton.
The back of the bills have other changed wording including “Motion Picture Purposes” replacing “The United States of America”, “In Props We Trust” replacing “In God We Trust”, and “Motion Picture Purposes” replacing “U.S. Treasury”.
There is also a copyright symbol in the bottom right corner and wording that says “Propmoney.com”. Bills like these are used primarily in movies and stage productions because they look realistic enough on film or viewed from an audience.
In speaking with Williams County Sheriff Tom Kochert, he stated that they have no suspects, but since the bulletin was placed on Facebook there have been no other instances of the fake money being passed.
Kochert also has informed neighboring agencies of the fake money. The purpose of the post was to bring awareness to the community, and in that respect, it has been a success.
