On June 21, 2021 the Wauseon School BOE held their regularly meeting, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The Board received an introduction from Mr. David Smigelski, Administrative Partner, Spangler Nathanson Attorneys at Law.
The minutes for the previous meeting were approved and then the Board went into Executive Session to prepare for, conduct or review negotiations of bargaining sessions with employees regarding their compensation or other terms and conditions of their employment, with no action taken.
Discussion was held regarding attendance at the 2021 Capital Conference and it was agreed that no one from Wauseon schools will be attending due to the current financial state of the district.
Following some conversation on the topic, the Board voted to approve a policy concerning Commemoration of School Facilities. Also approved were:
-Bills and Financial reports as presented
-Donations accepted with gratitude: anonymous gift of $450 to WES Food Pantry; $184.35 from Wauseon Athletic Boosters for NWOAL Championship and $957.38 for Track/Soccer Scoreboard Graphics; $250 from Stapleton Insurance Group to WHS Student Council for Homecoming; and $7,500 from the Hackett Siblings in remembrance of Hal C. And Carol S. Hacket to the WES Food Pantry.
-Resolution to Proceed with the Proposition of Income Tax ( The resolution states that as it is necessary to raise annual revenue of at least $4,017,685 for the district to keep going, it will be put on the November 2021 ballot for the area residents to vote on whether or not to have “an annual Income Tax of 2% on the earned income of individuals residing in the school district to be imposed by the Wauseon Exempted Village School District for five years, beginning January 1, 2021, for the purpose of providing for current expenses and permanent improvements for the school district.”
-Modifications and supplemental modifications to the FY21 Permanent Appropriations
-Modifications and supplemental modifications to the FY21 Certificate of Estimated Resources
-Adoption of the FY22 Permanent appropriations
-Participation of the Wauseon Exempted Village Schools in specific Federal grant programs
-Establishment of Change Funds for FY22
-FY22 Student Activities budget and purpose statements
-Assistant to the Treasurer Payroll as the credit card compliance officer for all Wauseon EVSD credit cards
-Appointed Treasurer and/or Assistant to the Treasurer AP/AR as the Board’s designee to attend public record training
-Resolution “Authorizing the issuance of bonds in the amount of not to exceed $2,235,000 for the purpose of refunding a portion of the bonds issued in September 2014 that had been issued to refund bonds issued for the purpose of 1. Paying the local share of school construction under the State of Ohio Classroom facilities assistance program, and 2. Constructing, adding to, renovating, remodeling, furnishing, equipping, and otherwise improving School District buildings and facilities, including expanding and improving facilities as may be required for participation in the State of Ohio Classroom Facilities Assistance Program, and acquiring, improving and equipping their sites; and authorizing and approving related matters.”

-Title revision of LaChelle Thomas from Technology Secretary to Technology Assistant, effective with the 21-22 school year
-Transfers of Kyle Borton from a WES 4th Grade Teacher to the WEVS Assistant Director of Technology, effective with the 21-22 school year and up to ten days at Assistant Director of Technology per diem rate; Bridget Benedict from a WMS Intervention Specialist, to a WES Intervention Specialist, effective with the 21-22 school year; April Jackson from a WES Teacher Aide to the WES Secretarial Assistant, effective with the 21-22 school year; and Trudy Vasvery from a WMS 3 hour Cook to a WES Teacher Aide, effective with the 21-22 school year
-Offered one year limited certificated teaching contracts to: Sydney Nardo as a WMS Intervention Specialist; Karen McGilvery as the WES Music Teacher; Kimberly Meredith as the WEVS ELL Coordinator; Caleb Wyse as a WES Intervention Specialist; Rachel Nagy as the Assistant Band Director; Dawn Ankney as a WPS Teacher Aide; Veronica Canales as a WMS Teacher Aide
-One-year limited classified contract to Melody Burress as a Full-time Bus Driver
-One-year limited supplemental contracts for extended time to eight employees
-Volunteer Coaches for the 21-22 school year: Mike Colon Volunteer Cross Country, Ray Martinez and Sam Smith for Volunteer Assistant Football
-Ten students as Student Pool Workers, effective June 22, 2021

-Nancy Badenhop as a Classified Sweeper, effective June 2, 2021 through June 30, 2021
-Wauseon BOE Equity and Excellence Statement
-Set the Breakfast/lunch prices for the 21-22 school year with no increases
-Set the Insurance Protection Fund payment for the 1:1 Initiative as $30 for the 21-22 School year
-Set the school supply/workbook fees as $35 for Grades K-12 for 21-22 school year
-Revisions in the 21-22 School Calendar
-Shared Services Agreement between the Wauseon School District and all Fulton County School Districts to transport students to educational settings, extra-curricular activities and events
The Board heard a report from Food Service Supervisor, Mrs. Jennifer Tester, before adjourning the meeting with no further business.
