Veteran

Patrick Joseph Gerity, age 56, passed away unexpectedly, September 16, 2023, at his Swanton home. He was born on January 26, 1967 to the late, Laurence “Larry” Gerity Sr. and Gerelda (Rouch) Gerity.

Patrick graduated from Maumee High School in 1985 and shortly after graduating he joined the United States Army.

After returning from service, he married Wendy Grindstaff and together were blessed with seven children, Nathaniel, Brianna, Josiah, Bethany, Mercy, Miriam, and Isaac.

Patrick would go on to marry his second wife Hella Gerity who preceded him in death on March 29, 2018, after her passing he met and fell in love with his third wife Dee (Hughes) Gerity, whom he married on July 25, 2021.

Together they loved rescuing and taking care of their cats, dogs and ducks. He will always be remembered for his talent at cooking and baking; especially bread, cakes and trying new recipes.

Patrick served as Pastor at AI Church and helped with prison ministries through the North Central Complex in Marion.

He was a journeyman electrician with IBEW Local #8. Patrick also previously worked at the Swanton Water and Sewer Plant; along with serving on the Delta and Swanton Police Departments.

In addition to his children, Patrick is survived by his wife, Dee Gerity; brothers, Gregory “John”, Larry Jr., James, Brad and Jerry; sister, Peggy and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Nathaniel Joseph Gerity and brothers, Larry “Mike” and Reginald “Billy”.

In honoring Patrick’s wishes, there will be no public services. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to “love your family and friends” as God loves you and Patrick tried to do with everyone he met.

Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Barnes Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 5825 St. Hwy 109 in Delta.

Online condolences may be sent to the family through our website at www.barnesfuneralchapel.com.
