Paul “Sparkey” Hawkins (1942 – 2025)

(Lifetime Member Of Montpelier Eagles)

Paul G. “Sparkey” Hawkins, 82, of Montpelier passed away Saturday, January 4, 2025 at St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo.

He was born on November 4, 1942 in Flint, Michigan to Paul E. and Adabelle (Markam) Hawkins. He married Linda L. Elliott on March 5, 1977 in Montpelier, and she survives.

Paul was a licensed electrician in Ohio and Michigan and retired from Spangler Candy Company in Bryan after 30 plus years. He also did fair concessions for nearly 50 years, mainly for the Williams and Fulton County Fairs.

Paul was a lifetime member of the Bryan Eagles and Montpelier Moose 312. Paul could often be found gambling at his favorite seat at the Montpelier Eagles, where he was also was a lifetime member.


He spent many years being involved in both the NAPA and VNEA Pool Leaguers. Paul enjoyed being outside on his scooter and would often take his favorite dog Odie along for the ride. In the 1970’s Paul formed the band “Paul and the Buckeyes.”

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Linda; children Paul S. (Crystal Bernath) Hawkins of Montpelier and Kimberly A. (Craig Barton) Hawkins of Pioneer; four grandchildren Latesha Koch, Jevek Carr, Raven Roberts and Joshua Hawkins; and two great grandchildren Kyrie Jackson and Lela Roberts. Paul was preceded in death by his parents.

A Celebration of Paul’s life will take place at the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Montpelier on February 15, 2025 from 12-4 pm.
