(June 23rd, 2015) – EVERGREEN: The victory was a convincing one for Pettisville, as they defeated the Evergreen by double digit runs on Tuesday, June 23. Never trailing, the Blackbirds were able to put away the Vikings in just six innings.

Pettisville bested Evergreen 14-4.

From the early goings of the contest, Pettisville assumed control. The Blackbirds claimed a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, establishing an advantage that would only grow larger as the game continued on.

While the second and third innings remained quiet, the Pettisville boys made plenty of noise in the top of the fourth. Racking up 7 runs in the frame, the Blackbirds pulled away to a 9-0 lead. Evergreen would muster a run in the bottom half of the inning in response. A scoreless fifth inning gave way to a 5 run effort by the visiting Blackbirds in the sixth, placing a 14-1 gap between the two squads. Needing 4 runs to avoid the mercy rule from taking effect, the Vikings could only manage 3, handing Pettisville the 10 run victory.

Evan King took the victory for Pettisville, standing on the mound for 5 innings. In that span, he gave up no earned runs and just 3 hits. He also struck out 2 Viking batters, walking 1 more.

It was a great day for Blackbird Dillon King in the batter’s box. The sophomore-to-be went 2 for 4, hitting for a single and a double as he brought home 3 RBIs for his team. Classmate Justin Rupp, who had a 1 for 3 showing, earned a double as well. Rising senior Christian Barhite connected with the ball on 2 of his 3 plate appearances, hitting a pair of singles.
