(October 11th, 2014)-EDON: It may have been the Bombers hosting the Junior High Buckeye Border Conference (BBC) Tournament, but it was the Blackbirds of Pettisville who claimed victory at the event.

The Seventh Grade Pettisville unit took on a tough Hilltop team in their first game. After winning a convincing game 1 25-11, the Pettisville girls faced a determined Lady Cadet squad in game 2. Hilltop took the set 25-20. Game 3 was a struggle between the two teams, with the Lady Blackbirds gaining an advantage late to earn a 25-18 victory and advance to the championship match.

In that match, they faced the hometown Bombers. Edon took control of the match early, winning a close 26-24 set. Pettisville battled back, however, earning a 25-13 win in game 2. Both sides wouldn’t back down in a decisive game 3, which would determine who the best BBC team was. The Lady Blackbirds pulled off a tough victory, defeating the Bombers 25-21 to win the championship.

The Eighth Grade Blackbirds had an easier path to the championship. First going against Fayette, the Lady Blackbirds bested the Eagles early in the match with a 25-16 victory. Game 2 was basically a repeat of the first game, with Pettisville taking down the set 25-16.

In the championship match, the girls of Pettisville did battle with their counterparts from Stryker. Game 1 belonged to the Blackbird girls, who claimed the set 25-10. The Lady Panthers tried to battle back, but fell short in the attempt, losing the game and the match 14-25 to Pettisville.

Both Seventh and Eighth Grade Pettisville teams are this year’s Buckeye Border Conference Junior High Champions.
