Phoebe C. Engle, 94, of Wauseon, Ohio passed away Saturday, November 7, 2015, at Fulton Manor in Wauseon, Ohio. She was born on May 9, 1921, in West Virginia the daughter of D.W. and Sallie (Dawson) Carpenter. She married Fred M. Engle Jr. on December 22, 1950, in Sandyville, West Virginia and he preceded her in death on January 17, 2006.

Phoebe graduated from Gilmore High School Class of 1934, in Sandyville, West Virginia, Alderson Broaddus College in Phillippi, West Virginia and the University of Pittsburgh with a Masters Degree. She was a long term teacher of English and Latin at Gilmore High School, Ashville High School and Teays Valley High School, a member of Fayette Christian Church, Delta Kappa Gamma Society and the basketball team at Alderson Broaddus College. Her hobbies included reading, traveling, cooking,
fishing and attending prayer group meetings with her friends.

Surviving Phoebe are two daughters, Grace (Randy) Brehm of Fayette, Ohio and Sue (Craig) Myers of Wauseon, Ohio; sister, Reba Bryant of Fort Worth, Texas; sister in-law, Edith Engle Williams of Point Pleasant, West Virginia; brother in-law, Bill (Karen) Engle of Le Roy, West Virginia; four grandchildren, Aaron, Brent (Amanda), Mark (Chris), Carrie (Derek); six great grandchildren, Jacob, Taylor, Raven, Hawk, Scarlett and Aspen.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two children in infancy.


Funeral services for Phoebe will be Tuesday, November 10, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Fayette Christian Church with Pastor Scot Ocke and Pastor Gene Zugg officiating. Interment will follow in Smith Cemetery in Franklin Twp., Ohio. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home-Barrett Chapel in Fayette.
