Phyllis J. DeGroff Vergith, age 90, of Defiance, Ohio formerly of Leesburg, FL., passed away Monday, January 01, 2018 in Kingsbury Place, Defiance, Ohio.

She was born December 26, 1927 in Springfield Township to the late Alfred F. and Alta M. (Garber) Nofziger. She married Lindbergh “Lindy” L. DeGroff on February 16, 1947 and he preceded her in death on November 07, 1990. She married Lewis Wayne Vergith on September 17, 1994 and he preceded her in death on September 18, 2005. Phyllis was employed for 20 years with Champion Molded Plastics Company. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Stryker, Ohio and attended Berean Baptist Church, Leesburg, FL during her residence in Coachwood Colony and directed their kitchen band. She resided in Brookdale Assisted Living in Leesburg, FL and finally at Kingsbury Place, Defiance, Ohio. Phyllis enjoyed many types of crafts, playing golf, listening to gospel music, and was an avid Cleveland Indians fan.

Survivors include her children, Dennis (Linda) DeGroff, Fort Wayne, IN., Mrs. Ralph (Cathy) Ruffer, Ney, OH., Douglas (Mary Sue) DeGroff, Bryan, OH. Grandchildren, Scott, Chris, Josh, Mook, Sarah, and Craig. Great-grandchildren, Genna, Bradyn, Reese, Molly, Morgan, Olivia, Jameson, and Allison. Stepson, Douglas Vergith, Setauket, NY.; Stepdaughters, Paula Vergith-Hill, Arlington, MA, Sara Freeborn, Gainesville, FL. Sisters and brother, Virginia Rhoades, William (Donna) Nofziger, Marie Armstrong. Surviving In-laws, Connie Nofziger, Clara Nofziger, Ruth Ann Nofziger, Corrine DeGroff, Vivian DeGroff. Numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, son-in-law, Ralph Ruffer, brothers and sisters, Mary, Lydia, Robert (Bob), Lauren (Pete), Mervin (Jake), Dwight, Betty Bechtol, Helen Quisenberry, James (Jim).
