Ramona A. “Monie” Shaffer, 80 years, of Sherwood, passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at Genesis Healthcare – Bryan Center, Bryan, Ohio.  Monie was born December 29, 1935 in Paulding, Ohio, the daughter of the late Henry and Marjorie(Johnson) Grimes.  After the death of her father, Monie was raised at the Marsh Foundation Children’s Home in Van Wert, where she graduated from High School.   She married William Clark “Cork” Shaffer on July 1, 1955 in Gary, Indiana, and he preceded her in death on October 4, 2000.

A devoted wife and mother, Monie saw to it that her family was cared for and all their needs were met.  She was a social member of the Sherwood VFW Post 5665, and the Hicksville Eagles.  Monie enjoyed working crossword puzzles, making homemade raspberry wine and the occasional trip to the casino.  An avid Elvis fan, Monie truly enjoyed family gatherings, with all the family around.

Surviving are her three children, Timothy (Kathy) Shaffer of Defiance, Jason (Marilyn) Shaffer of Cecil and Kelly (William) Antoine, Jr. of Antwerp; nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Ronnie Grimes of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and one sister, Rita Langdon of Van Wert, Ohio.  She was preceded in death by her husband Cork; one son, Randy; two brothers, Robert and Russell Grimes.

Visitation for Ramona A. “Monie” Shaffer will be held Friday, October 14, 2016 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 230 East Elm Street, Sherwood.  Funeral services for Ramona will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2016 in the funeral home with Pastor Kevin Doseck officiating.  Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Defiance.


Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
