Veteran

Richard B. Booher, age 90, of Delta, passed away peacefully under hospice care at home with his loving wife by his side on Tuesday, October 17, 2023.

He was born on January 2, 1933 to the late Glenn L. Booher and Lillie (Burd) Booher. Richard would graduate from Perrysburg High School and later go on to attend Valparaiso University and the University of Toledo, where he would receive his Bachelor’s Degree in Electronic Engineering.

He honorably served his country in the U.S Army from 1953 – 1955 during the Korean War.  Richard married the love of his life, Janet Van Doren on October 24, 1964 and they would be married just shy of their 59th anniversary where they planned on renewing their vows.

Richard served as an engineer with John’s Manville from 1963 – 1985, before retiring. He later worked in the electronics department at Sam’s Club for 20 years.

Richard and his wife traveled the country in their motor home with their favorite locations being Tucson, AZ and Ft. Myers, FL. He was a past member with the Sons of the American Revolution.

Richard’s enjoyment of genealogy with his brother Paul led to many traveling sites around the United States.

He also was an accomplished singer and traveled with his barbershop chorus competing and performing for many years.

Richard’s fondest hobby was reading; especially mystery novels by Stuart Woods and westerns by Louis L’Amour.

He is survived by his wife, Janet S. Booher; nephews and nieces, Rob (Paula) Van Doren, Ronda (Bruce) Hawkins, Rochelle (Chris) Blunt, Jane (Joe) Boehringer and Sue Doolittle; along with many loving great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his brothers, Glenn “Jr”, Robert and Paul Booher and sisters, Lucille Abke and JoAnn Booher.

In honoring Richard’s request, there will be no public services. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Barnes Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 5825 St. Hwy. 109 in Delta.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may consider a memorial contribution to the Delta Fire Department and EMS, 500 Main Street Delta, Ohio 43515.

Online condolences may be sent to the family through our website at www.barnesfuneralchapel.com.
