Richard E. Steffes (1942 – 2016)

richard-e-steffesRichard E. “Dick” Steffes, age 74, of Blakeslee, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2016, at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers in Bryan, where he was a patient, surrounded by his family. Richard was employed by Metaldyne and retired with forty-four years of service. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Blakeslee, Ohio, and Knights of Columbus Council #3883 in Blakeslee and was a member of the Blakeslee Fire Department for twenty years.

Richard E. Steffes was born on January 11, 1942, in Superior Township near Montpelier, Ohio, the son of Cyril and Edrie (Shepherd) Steffes and raised by Basil N. and Frances A. (Stoy) Steffes. He married his wife of fifty-two years, Sally S. Whitman, on November 30, 1963, in Blakeslee and she survives.

Survivors also include one son, Thomas E. (Dawn) Steffes, of Moreland, Indiana; one daughter, Kim (Matt Reed) Steffes, of Edgerton, Ohio; six grandsons, Kade, Ethan, Tivon and Yoric Steffes and Bowen and Logan Reed; four sisters, Loretta Andres, Aggie Stoker, Barbara Shankster, and Nancy Risedorph; four brothers, Raymond “Tony” (Barb) Steffes, John Steffes, George (Barb) Steffes, and Sam (Barb) Steffes; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Wanda; and two brothers, Clarence Robert Steffes and C. Joseph Steffes.
