Richard L. Alwood, age 85, of Edon, Ohio, died at 3:16 P.M. on Thursday, March 31, 2016, at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice near Defiance, Ohio, where he was a patient after a brief illness. Mr. Alwood was a 1949 graduate of Edon High School and was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in Italy during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a heavy equipment operator with Klink Trucking in Angola, Indiana, for many years and in retirement worked for the Village of Edon in many capacities. Dick was also a former Edon police officer and served on the Edon village council. He was a member of the Edon American Legion and also of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Edon.

Richard L. Alwood was born on February 22, 1931, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Leland and Ruth (Cooper) Alwood. Survivors include two sons, Reverend Richard (Joyce) Hart, of Elida, Ohio, and Jeff (Alexis) Alwood, of Fort Worth, Texas; one daughter, Brenda (Steve) Leonard, of Defiance; a stepson, Steve (Ying) Kinnison, of Prince Frederick, Maryland; two stepdaughters, Nancy (Richard) Freeman, of Roxie, Mississippi, and Cheri Amolsch, of Brooklyn, Michigan; twenty-six grandchildren; forty-two great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Corbly, of Mountain Home, Arkansas; and one brother, John (Judy) Alwood, of Edon. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice, one brother and one sister.

Memorials are requested to the Williams County Humane Society or to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
