Richard R. Schulz, 91 of Ney, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2024, at his residence.Richard was born March 27, 1933, in Convoy, Ohio, the son of the late Walter W. and Mina (Mang) Schulz. He attended Ney Schools.

Richard served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict until his Honorable discharge in 1955.

He married the love of his life, Leola M. Gruber on April 7, 1956, and she preceded him in death on September 6, 2023.


Richard was a lifelong farmer, which he did until his retirement in 2010. Richard also was employed by General Motors Central Foundry in Defiance. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Bryan, and the Ney American Legion Post 680.

Richard enjoyed fishing for blue gill, crappie, and walleye at Houghton Lake in Northern Michigan. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting rabbits. He absolutely loved the time he was able to spend with his family.

Surviving are his three daughters, Rhonda (Michael) Boyer of Ney, Kathleen (Robert) Rambo of Defiance and Tammi (Glen Holstine) Custar of Carlisle, Kentucky; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife, Leola; one great-grandson and one brother, Walter J. Schulz.


Private funeral services will be held for Richard Schulz at the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home 206 North Lynn Street, Bryan. Private interment will follow in Ney Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites accorded by the Ney American Legion Post 680.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions be made to Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice Center, Defiance, Ohio.
