robert-adamsRobert J. Adams, age 88, long-time resident of Swanton, Ohio, entered into eternal life, Thursday morning, October 6, 2016, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. He was born April 22, 1928 in Toledo, Ohio to Raymond J. and Mabel (Reister) Adams. Bob was a 1946 graduate of Swanton High School, and served in the Korean War as an Army Engineer.

He married his beloved wife, Helen Carroll, in 1952 and together they raised four sons. Bob and Helen were married for 34 years. She preceded him in death in 1987.

On August 26, 1988 he married Leta Herrick. He and his wife, Leta of 28 years, loved traveling cross country in their motor home and creating long lasting friendships with people along the way. His CB call name when traveling was Buckeye Bob.

Bob was a State Farm Insurance agent in Swanton for 36 years and was a member of St. Richard Catholic Parish and the Knights of Columbus. Bob was a community and civic leader, serving on the Swanton School Board and Park & Recreation Board and member of the Swanton Elks Lodge and Swanton Rotary.


Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Leta; sons, Dr. Bradley (Christie) Adams, Greg (Kerri) Adams and Eric (Sandy) Adams; stepchildren, Sharon Cass, Linda McCabe and Rick Kigar; grandchildren, Autumn (Robert) Lee, Josh (Nicole) Adams, Amber (Brand) Ebner and April Adams, Rachel (Kyle) Haas, Alex, Andrew, Matthew, Brett, Thomas and Ben Adams, Luke and Drew Adams, Angela (Gary) Beegle, Lisa (Scott) Yoder, Ryan (Denise) McCabe, Tammy McCabe, Whitney McCabe (Jason), Stephanie (Matt) Carrick and Stephen (Misty) Cass and 20 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Ellen Poca and Doris (John) Beck; brother, Paul Adams, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his first wife, Helen, Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Mabel, and his son, Jeff Adams.

Family and friends may visit Sunday, October 9th from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton, where the Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue Monday, October 10th from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Richard Catholic Church in Swanton, where a Mass of Resurrection will begin at 11:00 a.m., with Fr. Adam Hertzfeld presiding and Deacon Jerry Ziemkiewicz assisting. Interment will follow at St. Richard’s Cemetery.
