
We lost a good father and husband today. On June 12, 2019 Robert E. Switzer, age 82, of Wauseon and Archbold, Ohio passed away, surrounded by his loved ones at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold, Ohio.
Bob was born May 29, 1937 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of the late Ralph and Evelyn (Brandon) Switzer. He attended 21 schools as a child and graduated from Delta High School in 1955. He then joined the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Navarro in the Pacific Theater. After relocating to Wauseon, Ohio, Bob met and married Ruth F. Switzer (nee Loudon) in 1960 and she went to be with the Lord in 2005.
Bob worked for the phone company in Wauseon and surrounding area, and served on the Wauseon Volunteer Fire Department for several years. He considered Wauseon his hometown and loved the community. He was a dedicated, born-again Christian who traveled on several mission trips and served as a Big Brother. He also played guitar at nursing homes and churches. Bob enjoyed playing guitar, camping and canoeing and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his children, Pam (Frank), Dan (Lina), Terry (Chris), Gene (Ellen) and Luther. His seven grandchildren, Jason, Kevin, Laura, Monica Kristy, Tom, Sara, Amy and Andrew, and 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He is also survived by his wife, Carolyn Switzer (nee Apgar) and his sister, Betty Ward. Preceding Bob in death are his parents, his wife, Ruth F. Switzer, and a sister, Shirley Poole. Bob was a kind and caring man.
Visitation for Bob will be held from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, June 16, 2019, in the Grisier Funeral Home in Archbold. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church, 20141 Co Rd X, Napoleon, OH, with the Rev. Dr. Carl E. Rockrohr, officiating. Interment will follow in the Wauseon Union Cemetery, where Graveside military honors will be accorded by the Fulton County Honor Guard.
