Roberta Johnston (1934 – 2024)

Roberta Pauline Johnston passed away on February 18, 2024, at Glenn Park of Defiance. Pauline spent her life caring for her family and her home.

Pauline was born on February 16, 1934, in Fulton County, to the late Carl Franklin and Nina Adeline (Bell) Olmstead. Pauline was a graduate of Wauseon High School.

On September 1, 1956, she married Harold “Wayne” Johnston, who preceded her in death in 2005. Pauline attended the Beulah Methodist Church in Winameg. Pauline liked flowers and dolls.


She enjoyed crocheting also. Above all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren, and often babysat them when they were younger.

Surviving Pauline is her daughter, Yvonne (Keith) Sommers of Pettisville; son, Lyle (Julie) Johnston of Wauseon; son, Linn (Kathy) Johnston of Wauseon; daughter, Carolyn Stutzman of Wauseon; and daughter, Diane Johnston-Schilling of Illinois. She is also survived by grandchildren, Tom (Sarah), Michelle (Doug), Jill (David), Michael (Cathy), Ben (Tiffany), Tyler (Jodi), Wes (Jessica), Melissa (Ryan), Dan, Jodi (Jay), Amy (Tyler), Amber, Kelly (Tyler), Colleen, Amanda (Zeke), and Alexandria (Drew); 32 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Carl “Jake” Olmstead, Elizabeth Neuenschwander, and Twila Helberg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold “Wayne”; parents; granddaughter Jenni; and siblings, Arlene Onweller, Audrey Smith, Kenneth Olmstead, Kathryn Olmstead, and Phyllis Onweller.


Visitation for Pauline will take place on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at the Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home of Wauseon, from 3pm to 7pm. A funeral service will take place on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at the funeral home, at 10am. Burial will follow at the Wauseon Union Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Beulah Winameg Methodist Church.
