If you knew Bummer, your life was changed. His infectious smile, his positive attitude, and his sense of humor likely made a lasting impression on you. He was truly one of a kind!

Ronald “Bummer” Alvin Schimming, a current resident of Swanton but a lifelong Liberty Center Tiger, celebrated his 75th birthday on December 28, 2020. He spent the next 3 1/2 weeks battling COVID-19 & passed away on January 22, 2021. He left this world surrounded by his wife, his daughters & his son-in-laws, and he entered the gates of heaven peacefully.

Bummer had a rock solid faith & he loved the Lord. He was the best husband, father, papa, and friend there ever was. He loved people & he loved getting to know them.

He would sometimes drive around just to find people to chat with. “Hey buddy,” he would say as he put his arm on your shoulder, “what do you think about…?” He knew a little bit about everything & loved to share his knowledge & opinions.

Ron was preceded in death by his father, Woodrow Schimming; his mother, Loretta Schimming; and his brother, Gary Schimming. He was welcomed into heaven with open arms by his granddaughter, Remington Remer.

He will be dearly missed on this earth by his wife & soulmate, Patricia Schimming; his children, Tarie & Bill Simile, Jackie & Phil Stankiewicz, Michelle & Nathan Bowe, and Amy & Ben Remer. His legacy will live on through his grandchildren, Sydnie & AJ Simile, Sophi & Tessa Stankiewicz, Chase Bowe, and Beyla, Benzen, Bexley, & Brigston Remer. He will also be missed by his sister, Darla (Glenn) Van Horn.

No services will take place at this time. A celebration of life will be held in the spring/summer where family & friends can gather & tell stories of Bummer…just as he would want it.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to R Angel at P.O. Box 226, Swanton, OH 43558. R Angel is a 501c3 charity that was started in memory of Bummer’s granddaughter, Remi, who passed away as a baby. She was deeply loved by her Papa.

R Angel serves families staying in the hospital with their sick children by delivering baskets of food & goodies, gift cards, and toiletries to the hospital. A donation can also be made to a charity of your choice.
