Ronald G “Smokey” Schweitzer, age 88, passed away Sunday April 7, 2013 at the Defiance Area Inpatient Care Center. Prior to his retirement he had worked for Strydel/Ohio Art in Stryker, Weatherhead in Angola, IN and the KOA campground in San Antonio, TX.

Mr. Schweitzer was born on September 9, 1924 the son of the late Henry D. and Edna (Hauser) Schweitzer in Auburn, IN. He was a US Navy veteran of WWII and had been a member of the Stryker American Legion and the Bryan Eagles.

Mr. Schweitzer is survived by his wife; Thelma (Dull/Koch) Schweitzer; three daughters; Julia (Sheldon) Grieser, Connie (Robert) Hoffman, and Karen (DeVon) Arnold; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death was his first wife; Martha Wilder, brother; Henry D. Schweitzer, Jr., five children; Ronald L. Schweitzer, Mary L. Schweitzer, Thomas Koch William Koch and Judith (Koch) Whitman and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Grisier Funeral Home in Stryker on Wednesday April 10, 2013 from 3:00-7:00pm. There will be no funeral service. Mr. Schweitzer will be cremated and laid to rest at a later date in the Shiffler Cemetery near Pulaski, Ohio.

The Grisier Funeral Home in Strkyer has been entrusted with arrangements and online condolences may be made to the family at www.GrisierFH.com. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the care of Thelma Schweitzer.
