Ross G. Rummel (1924 – 2016)

Ross G. Rummel, 91, a lifelong resident of Montpelier passed away early Thursday morning at his home surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on December 27, 1924 in Montpelier to Chester Arthur and Jessie M. (Henry) Rummel.  Ross proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.  On April 20, 1946, he married Beatrice Coler in Hillsdale, Michigan and she survives.

Ross retired from the United States Postal Service as a Letter Carrier after 14 years.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Beatrice; three daughters, Phyllis (Wesley) Bumpus of Bankers, Michigan, Patricia Haskill of Montpelier; and Peggy (Eugene) Freese of Montpelier; one son Raymond (Barbara) Rummel of Montpelier, many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Ross was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Robert, Richard and Ralph, and sister Ruth Coler.

Visitation for Ross will be on Sunday, October 30th from 12-2pm and Monday, October 31st from 10-11am at the Thompson-Geesey Funeral Home on Empire Street in Montpelier.  Services will be on Monday at 11am at the funeral home with Reverend Walter Hicks to officiate.  Interment will follow at Osborn Cemetery in Hillsdale County, with graveside rites will be provided by the Montpelier Veterans.


The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to CHP Hospice, The American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.  Condolences can be left at www.thethompsonfuneralhome.com.
