Ruby Viola Lockhart, 112, of Bryan, formerly of Montpelier, passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at Hillside Country Living in Bryan.

She was born on May 17, 1912, in Elkhart, Indiana, to Andrew and Ida (Baker) Clay. At the time of her passing, she was the oldest person in Ohio and ninth oldest in the US.

Her photo book, “Quilts for my Family,” is available in the Montpelier Public Library. She was an enthusiastic reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles even in her last days. The Williams County Commissioners proclaimed May 17, 2018, as Ruby Viola Lockhart Day in honor of her birthday.

Ruby leaves behind her children, Eugene (Suzanne) Lockhart of Issaquah, Washington, and James (Suzanne) Lockhart of Huntington Beach, California; grandchildren; great grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; and great great great grandchildren in Ohio, Indiana, Missouri, Washington, Arizona, Massachusetts and California.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Farrell “Barr” Lockhart; daughter, Lynne (James) Wallace; grandson, Andy Wallace; and four brothers and two sisters.

Ruby will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery in Montpelier in a private service. Those wishing to give a donation in her memory are requested to contribute to the charity of their choice.
