Ruth A. SmethurstRuth A. Smethurst, 73 years, of West Unity, passed away Monday, May 30, 2016 at Evergreen Manor Nursing Home, where she was a resident.  Ruth was born January 14, 1943 in Sherwood, Ohio, the daughter of the late Henry and Ethel (Lipp) Sohn.  She was a 1961 graduate of Hilltop High School. Ruth married William F. Smethurst in 1972 and he preceded her in death on December 24, 1982. She worked in Medical Records and as a Dietician at Community Hospitals and Wellness Center, Bryan and Montpelier for over 25 years retiring in 2007. Ruth was a member at the West Unity Presbyterian Church and the West Unity Senior Center. She enjoyed volunteering at the Omnibus Club and was part of the CHWC Ladies Auxiliary. In her free time, she enjoyed visiting with people, reading, and crocheting.

 Surviving is her son, Charles (Joni Matthews) Smethurst of Alvordton, Ohio; one grandson, Gabe Matthews of Alvordton, Ohio; one stepson, William (Martha) Smethurst of Bryan, Ohio; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and one sister, Ruby Butlemeyer of Fort Wayne, Indiana.

 A Memorial Service for Ruth A. Smethurst will be held Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at West Unity Presbyterian Church, 201 East North Street, West Unity, with Rev. Thomas Steensma and Pastor Nick Woodall officiating. Private interment was made in Floral Grove Cemetery, West Unity.

 In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions be made to Williams County Humane Society, 09464 County Road 13, Bryan, Ohio 43506.
