campground_groundbreaking WEBOctober 15, 2014 – A groundbreaking event was held on Monday, October 6, 2014 to commemorate the start of a major Campground Expansion project at Sauder Village. Work has started already this fall at the Campground with plans to add an additional 40 campsites and a new water feature for campers to enjoy.

“We are very excited about the expansion plans for our Sauder Village Campground,” shared Debbie Sauder David, Sauder Village President & CEO. “There continues to be an increase in the popularity of camping. Our Campground Expansion project will allow us to welcome many more families, outdoor enthusiasts and retirees who embrace camping as a wonderful way to get away from it all! Increased revenues from the Campground will support the cultural and educational mission of the Historic Village and the added sites will bring more visitors to the region. This expansion is possible because on an estate gift from a donor whose love for Sauder Village spurred him to make a donation that would support our mission for many years to come.”

Plans for the Campground Expansion include the addition of 40 new full hook-up sites (electric, water and sewer) on the south end of Little Lake Erie. The eleven existing “electric-water” sites will also be upgraded to full hook-up sites. To provide even more guest amenities for campers, a new water feature will be built in a park-like setting on the southeast side of the shower house. While plans have not been finalized, this water feature is planned to be similar to a splash pad/spray park.

Working at the Campground already this fall are Armstrong Excavating of Fayette and Creighton Electric of Archbold – two local contractors hired for this major construction project. Plans are for the Campground Expansion to be finished and ready for guests by the start of the 2015 camping season.

“We are excited to begin work on this new project at Sauder Village,” shared Steve VanSickle, General Manager of Lodging. “Our Sauder Village Campground has continued to experience steady growth through the years. With the addition of other amenities including a playground, horse shoes, corn-hole game and a basketball court – bookings at our Campground continue to be at an all-time high and we look forward to welcoming even more guests in the future!”
