Senator Jon Husted Releases Statement Following State Of The Union Address

WASHINGTON – Sen. Jon Husted (R-Ohio) today released the following statement following the president’s 2026 State of the Union address.

“This evening, I had the honor to attend President Trump’s State of the Union address. He highlighted many of the ways we continue to deliver on our promises to make life safer and more affordable for the American people, and particularly the people of Ohio.

“Inflation is at its lowest point in five years, and wages have outpaced inflation every single month since January of 2025.

“That’s important—keeping more money in the pockets of Ohioans, as they don’t have to pay more for the products they need to live and thrive.

“My focus is making life more affordable for working families in Ohio. And one of the most important ways we delivered on that is the Working Families Tax Cut Act, which we passed last year.

“From no tax on tips and overtime, to cutting taxes for seniors, this law helps Ohioans keep more of what they earn.

“The president is also investing in a Made-in-America energy strategy, especially for our power plants. We need more affordable, reliable energy, and the president is leading.

“Policies in recent years from previous presidents shut down American energy production, creating a supply-and-demand problem that’s driving up electricity prices.

“But the president is starting to fight back. He’s starting to get more investment in building more power plants to create more jobs, more power, more electricity production in our state with huge investments in America, especially in Ohio.

“The president is also delivering on his promise to secure our border and stop the flow of drugs into our country, into our communities—which saves lives in Ohio and across this country.

“I’ve seen it, I’ve seen the families who’ve suffered. And I know that securing the border has stopped many of the illegal drugs that are killing people across our state.

“Crime is also down. In Ohio we’ve seen violent crime drop by double digits, including homicide rates. This is completely attributable to new policies that we’ve put in place to protect American citizens.

“And finally, as we all celebrated Olympic gold for the U.S. men and women’s hockey teams, I valued the fact that the president raised the issue of how we have a shared patriotism in our American history as we celebrate our 250th anniversary of this great country.

“I’m proud of America, our history and what it stands for. All Americans have a responsibility to continue to work to form a more perfect union.

“Every one of us can do a little bit more to make our country better and greater, to help our state, communities and nation leave it better for future generations and a more hopeful future for our children.

“As we continue to move forward this year, my priorities will remain the same: help working families, lower the costs for them and create pathways for Ohioans to pursue their version of the American Dream.

“We have so much to be thankful for as Americans and Ohioans, and I just want to say thank you for the opportunity to serve.”
