A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for Williams County and much of the surrounding region Tuesday evening, with potentially dangerous storms possible through midnight.
The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana issued Watch 82 at 6:01 p.m. EDT March 31, covering eight counties in northwest Ohio and 24 counties in northern Indiana. The watch remains in effect until midnight.
Williams, Defiance, Fulton, Henry, Paulding, Putnam, Van Wert, and Allen counties are included on the Ohio side. All 24 northern Indiana counties under the watch stretch from LaPorte and St. Joseph counties in the west to DeKalb, Steuben, and Allen counties in the east.
Area cities specifically named in the watch include Montpelier, Bryan, Archbold, Edgerton, Wauseon, Delta, Swanton, Defiance, Hicksville, Paulding, Van Wert, and Fort Wayne among dozens of communities across the two-state region.
Residents in the affected areas should monitor conditions and be prepared to take shelter if warnings are issued. A watch means that conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms, which can produce damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes.
